Project Goals

Design of three books and covers for the Unknown Worlds table top role playing game (TTRPG) series, including a Backerkit marketing campaign to promote and fund the project. Book and cover designs required the creation and curation of numerous physical photo props, scanned or photographed, for inclusion as graphics in the books. The books are available for sale online and at Old Guard Games and Board Game Barristers in Milwaukee, WI.

Branding & Backerkit Funding Campaign

To fund the design and production of the Unknown Worlds series, a Backerkit campaign (similar to Kickstarter) was started to promote the series. A brand identity and logo were created to represent the series, which was used throughout the campaign and the books. The campaign was funded in 4 days.

Unknown Worlds: Core Book

Intended to be simple and easy to page through, this Core Book sets the rules and builds the basis for the Unknown Worlds game. Section tabs on the edges of each page help players navigate the information quickly. The design is minimalistic, meant to contrast the vibrancy of the highly stylized Field Guides in the series.

Unknown Worlds: Field Journal: Small Town Magic

Designed to look like a composition notebook curated by the author and written on their IBM Selectric in 1985, this book was brought to life through the creation and use of physical photo props, “clipped,” “taped,” or “stapled” into the pages of the journal, and the creation of other ephemera within the book.

Unknown Worlds: Field Journal: Victorian Horror

In the era of letterpresses and arsenic book covers when this journal is set, this book uses an antique typeface and is typeset to look like an academic text printed on a press, accompanied by monsters, historic photos, and a few splatters of blood.
